OHMIGOD YOU GUYS it is February! January felt like it would never end, so when it did end, I didn’t realize it was time to update you about what is happening at Yorck Kinos in February. I made you this little mood board to apologize.
On it, you can see Paul Mescal purely because it was his birthday on the 2nd. Shout out Paul!
Let’s get into it, shall we? Starting off with everybody’s favorite: Odeon Wednesdays!
This week (the 5th) Torment Nexus brings you WALL·E so you better bring some tissues because we all know we will be sobbing through this one. Especially in times like these. Oof.
Following on the 12th you can catch the 80ies Musical Teen Witch at Simply The Worst. us to find out, is it really so good it hurts?? Also reminder to read everything about Simply The Worst in the in depth interview with curator Daniel Denzin here.
Fetch will be following up with the January program and is giving you The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Who is ready to watch Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine fall into a fountain as they deliver a beautiful enemies to lovers trope?
Closing out the month as always will be the Classic Sneak, now presented by Letterboxd!! Read more about that here.
If you’re a horror fan, this month’s Creepy Crypt Screenings (every Saturday Night at Rollberg) are treating you to such gory gems as When Evil Lurks.
At Neues Off you shouldn’t miss out on the February in the mood line up, with outstanding films such as Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Monster and Park Chan-Wook’s Lady Vengeance.
Of course, we also need to have a look at the new releases in February.
This Thursday Angelina Jolie will be gracing our screens, giving Opera giving Diva, in Pablo Larraín’s Maria (cue me instantly singing West Side Story, oops).
Following on the 13th we have Hundreds of Beavers. No literally. So many Beavers. From experience we can tell you, that should you have the opportunity to watch this one in a full movie theater – take it. You will not stop laughing.
A review I really enjoyed was Letterboxd ’s Houston Coley 4,5 Star review, in which they write:
generative AI watched this and started trembling in its stolen boots. we humans can make some pretty impressive stuff, even with limited materials. we may not be so different from beavers in that way.
February truly is the month we get all the films in that were talked about internationally three months ago.
On the 20th we will get to experience Andrea Arnold’s new film Bird starring Franz Rogowski and on the 27th Sing Sing will finally be released in theaters. Next to the Oscar nominated Colman Domingo, most of the cast in Sing Sing actually play themselves.
As Letterboxd Oscar Loser Saoirse Ronan (what a name) writes in their 5 Star Review:
every time “as himself” rolled across the screen tears also rolled down my face. what a beautiful movie.
We can’t wait for this one.
Finally on the 27th Timothée Chalamet, who is truly doing the most chaotic press tour ever right now, will serenade us with his Bob Dylan portrayal in A Complete Unknown. Chalamet is also set to come to Berlin to premiere his film at the Berlinale, which is also happening this month and which I haven’t gotten into at all thus far.
But we need to wrap up now, so you can still read this before the month is over.
