Tanner’s review published on Letterboxd:
Modern epics are so rare. We’re so rarely given the time to build a connection to a world and the characters populating it. I had my doubts when they announced an adaptation of Dune that would be split in two but it feels proper. Where we left off feels like such a natural breakpoint. An assertion of intent and now the ascension.
A tragedy pulled from a power fantasy. I just love everything here. Paul’s outright refusal to give in to the inevitable, Chani’s bigger role as co-lead struggling to guide him. Paul’s actual mentors all pushing him towards the violence he’s questioning. Javier Bardem is hilarious despite playing a religious fanatic. Rebecca Ferguson again proves her prowess with villainous roles. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I watched.
