Dune: Part Two

Kudos to Denis Villeneuve, for he took this long and complex novel and successfully made a cinematic sense of its plot. Sure, a fair amount of complexities and interesting characters had to be compromised or omitted in order to avoid a narrative mess, yet Villeneuve strongly holds onto the core themes of Herbert's Dune. My eyes were always transfixed on the beauty presented onscreen. Just on a technical level, it's a masterpiece. The eyegasmic cinematography and eargasmic sound design capturing detail of every little thing possible. The most underwhelming part about this extraordinary technical effort is the laziness of Hans Zimmer. There is no inventiveness to the score of part-2, it feels like a watered-down version of part-1 album and dune sketchbook. I would rather have the score of first movie reused than have the same score be served with an added WHAAM, BOOM or BELL RINGS. With all due respect to Zimmer's Legacy, I hope Villeneuve gets someone else to score Messiah.

The performances were almost all good. I usually feel that Chalamet is on an autopilot in most of his movies, but here especially towards the third act he really makes an effort resulting in a very memorable performance. The worldbuilding is great. The changes made from book to screen are ambitious and they are neatly streamlined; one can feel that these changes have been made with Messiah in hindsight. I'm just really envious of people lucky enough to have an accessibility to watch this movie in the 1.43 ratio in full glory. I would melt.

Overall, this is the best possible way one could've adapted Dune on screen. The pacing is perfect and it made me wanna stay immersed in this fictional world for a little more. All eyes on Messiah now and I'm darn excited about it.
