I agree with everyone that deploying Hugh Grant's nuclear charm in a horror direction is a...fun stunt! He's just a boy, standing in front of two girls, asking if he can kill them. The whole trick of this movie is that Nobody Could Ever Find Hugh Scary When He Is Such A Doddering Moppet and well....that's a big mistake, girls! Huge! Never believe that just because a man offers you blueberry pie he doesn't have a giant murder maze in his house!!! That all said, I do wish the conceit of "Hugh uses his genteel bluster and floppy hair for evil" was in the service of...a better film. This film is SO clearly written by male writing partners who have read Save the Cat -- I can feel the sting of the high-fives they gave each other after each meandering monologue about if religion is you know, like real or not just or the opiate of the masses, bro....I guess I simply crave better material for Hugh as he makes his showy third act turn into an antihero. Paddington 2 served him better than this. That said, glad to see one of the Yellowjackets getting some work outside of Showtime.
