Dune: Part Two

2024

★★★

Paul and Johnny are out here causing a ruckus in Arrakis!

I see that some people are saying that the Dune movies will be as big as Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I have to strongly disagree with that statement. Because if it was not for those movies, it would not have paved the way for movies like Dune. The influence that Star Wars and LOTR have embedded into our culture and influenced cinema as a whole is astronomical.

I cannot believe that I was once again fooled by Denis Villeneuve, having part two be yet again another 3-hour long set-up to part three. I wanted to see that big war scene that was teased in the first movie, but nope, that will probably be in part six or something. The funny thing is I watched the first one the night before this and watched a recap before going to the screening and honestly, I still could not tell you what was going on. Apart from the spice and Paul possibly being the chosen one.

I was very lucky to be able to go see this in IMAX. If you are going to go see this, then I would recommend you go see it at an IMAX cinema because if you are like me and do not care for the story, the sound and visuals are astonishing. There are more battle sequences in this one that kept me entertained, and the special effects are incredible, there is not a single crappy-looking scene in this movie.

I don't think this is a bad movie by any means and I know my review is very negative, but I actually did enjoy Dune: Part 2 but it most definitely is not a masterpiece. A 4.5 rating on Letterboxd is Ludacris. I am glad that the majority of people think this is a masterpiece, unfortunately I just don't see it personally.
