Just Like Heaven

2005

★★½ Watched

Murk Ruffalo and Reese Witherspoon are charismatic enough, and that's what saves the film, but it feels like there is something missing. Like a scene that has been cut out. When exactly do they fall in love, because it feels like it happens between scenes?
Shoutout to Jon Heder for being comedy gold.

A Christmas Carol

Real effective story-telling and the ghosts looks great! Could've benefited from a longer running time though.

FX's A Christmas Carol

2019

★★½ Watched

A bit too grim and dark for my taste and I think that ruins the message. You can't go this traumatic and then try to construct a happy ending in the last ten minutes, it makes it feel more depressing than hopeful. It looks great though and Guy Pierce is officially the sexiest Scrooge to date. Maybe too sexy?

And I know it's made to fill time slots, but they managed to tell this story quite effectively in 10 minutes 100 years before.

Catch Your Breath

Starts off strong but then show a little too much of the monster. I would've appreciated more playing around with the darkness.

The Haunted House

1921

★★½ Watched

It's derivative and less creative than some of Keaton's other works. There are some fun scenes though even if it's not totally clear how they all fit together.

Mr. Harrigan's Phone

2022

★★ Watched

Unfortunately the slow burn doesn't really come off as atmosphere but instead is just boring. There is something about old people telling the youth why their phones are bad that does not itch the right scratch.

Haunted Mansion

2023

★★ Watched

I really like the people involved in this but unfortunately none of them looks like they're having.... fun? Which really seems like a basic for a movie based on a amusement park ride.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

2019

★★ 1

This movie has so much potential with an intriguing plot set up by the last film, some great actors playing interesting characters and beautiful beautiful sets and special effects. So why doesn't it work? At all. Could be the lazy script, the too many safe bets, a director who doesn't know how to tie his stuff together or the too involved production company? But what do I know.

Ghost Ship

So the ghost is just a man who hangs out in the engine room and smoke cigars sometimes? I don't really see the problem.
