Matt Thomas’s review published on Letterboxd:
An equally stunning (visually) follow up which packs a lot in and has left me drained by the end. This has an even more languid pace which I was fine with, but could sense others getting restless throughout the first 2 hours.
Not all of the megastar casting works and there's a couple here whom let the side down (Walken). Some (Butler, Pugh) feel more isolated from the central plot too. But it's all irably held together very well.
Obviously, and just Google the likely title of the third film to confirm this isn't a spoiler, there's a Christ-like prophecy story - as in Herbert's work - which means you always kind of know the narrative arc that not-Jesus will follow. There are still a few surprises though.
Costume and production design remains on point (if maybe even better than the first), the score and effects well and the use of location is gorgeously utilised.
Not a perfect film but one heck of a cinematic experience.
