"Goonies never say die!"
It's impossible not to fantasize growing up in the 80s while watching this! The Goonies brings me so much joy + comfort and makes me miss those days growing up with your buddies and going on little adventures that felt like you were entering new worlds, they captured that incredibly well in this. I might just exclusively watch 80s + 90s movies forever idk
"There is no one in this room who can stand against me."
This was my fourth time watching this masterpiece and I think it's time I finally gave my thoughts. Dune: Part Two is, in all rights, a certified banger in the science fiction realm. A movie like this doesn't come around every year and I feel so grateful to have seen it this many times in theaters to fully appreciate the sounds, visuals, music, and performances. I could sit…
"We did this by the book, right?"
I had to start the year off with a bang!
Sicario is impeccable filmmaking and one of the best modern crime thrillers. When you put a genius director together with a master of cinematography + a brilliant screenwriter AND a fantastic cast you have all the ingredients necessary for an all time banger.
The unflinching, tension-filled scenes were masterfully done on all fronts. Music, camerawork, atmosphere, acting, and the sense of dread around…
"That’s $25,000 Alpaca! You blot that shit!"
As a huge fan of the crime genre, American Gangster seemed like a film I would've checked off my list years ago. However, I wasn't overly impressed and overall I thought it was a fine film that was elevated by an awesome actor. There were a couple of scenes that I really dug but a dog gets shot so that's an automatic negative for me. Regardless, Denzel Washington will always be my man!
"Fucking zoinks!"
I would love to see Joaquin Phoenix in more comedies! Inherent Vice sets us in the world of Doc Sportello, which really reminded me of The Big Lebowski but with less White Russians and more paranoia. The filmmaking is great from Paul Thomas Anderson as it always is but the story didn't really suck me in although I had a good time watching. It seems the consensus is to watch this twice to fully understand the complex plot…
