Macca’s review published on Letterboxd:
Visually stunning and definitely expanded well from the first with an amazing score. The 2 hours 45 minutes absolutely flew by and I loved 80% of it. My biggest problem is some of the characters if I’m being honest.
Austin Butler I thought gave a great performance, however his character in my opinion was completely wasted. From the trailer he’s built up as this absolute manic and when first introduced I really thought this character means business. When it came down to it, I didn’t think he was a threat at all. Yeah he looked crazy and was weird, but they threw him in an arena where two of the men were drugged and he struggled against the 3rd? Then not too much about him until his final fight scene where he was beaten relatively quickly? Don’t get me wrong I thought that scene was great with the hand to hand combat but his character has just come and gone in a flash and that’s him done now. Also Dave Bautista’s character, the leader of this great army who have taken over this planet, yet he runs away from The Fremen as soon as he comes face to face with them and then is taken down by Gurney with complete ease.
The action just felt quite anti climatic to be honest, I saw someone compare this film to The Two Towers but they must of been on fucking spice themselves with that claim.
That being said I did enjoy it I promise and it had so many great qualities, just the action side brought it down slightly for me. That being said part 3 I’m sure will be the best yet and I’m still very excited and will rewatch many times
