in The Haunting of Hill House Mike Flanagan has created not just a horror triumph, but one that cherished the topics of love, loss, pain, and family.
the back half of this series is packed beyond words - and I really didn’t think it could get better than the first five episodes.
there were a couple times there were real tears in my eyes, and coupling this breadth of emotion with such technical mastery…

Felt king - I wasn’t truly engaged the whole time but I love the plot conceptually, the flawless mix of supernatural and psychological horror, and of course Mike Flanagan’s direction (especially with that unbeatable climax).
But - the characters felt distant and there was just a bit of intrigue missing from the screenplay that would’ve propelled Oculus even further.
Maybe it deserves a rewatch tho?

Mike Flanagan shines yet again in this telling commentary on organized religion - this is a tremendously effective, slow-burning allegory with an immensely cathartic payoff.
