Absolutely loved how patient this was. Earlier this year I got really into Tezuka and a couple other classic manga artists. I in Understanding Comics there’s this section about how American comics have way fewer meditative ellipses than Japanese comics specifically. That’s something that definitely drew my attention and something that continues to. I absolutely love the idea of slow cinema, slow art that forces us to sit with things and sit with them for a long time.
Unfortunately I had to break this one up over a couple viewings so I can’t say I got the full emotional experience. But this was awesome.
