legitimately awe inspiring while also feeling tailor made for a specific brand of reactionary worship where, rather than necessarily breaking the mold, Villeneuve is clearly showing reverence to the genre, his film’s source and the filmmakers that have come before him — time will tell if this is indeed his franchise’s Empire Strikes Back or Terminator 2 (et al.) but, for now, it’s the first bonafide sci-fi blockbuster in ages that hasn’t had to sacrifice sheer dorkiness to be palatable to the masses, which is a very good thing
