The cast of this family drama have a natural chemistry which was genuine, delightful and enjoyable in the first half of the film. As we get to the crux of this family unit in the second half, interests will likely decline; as we unravel a familial conflict with the patriarchal father figure at an incredibly slow pace. Gita Bhebhita Butar Butar was a genuine standout and delivers an emotional monologue as the girl child of this traditional Batak household —stuck between tradition and her status-concious father.

When you consider the immense amount of gaslighting both parents participate in to scheme for the return of their sons, this cheery Indonesian comedy doesn’t quite feel the same from the start of this film.
