The biggest catfish of the year, Celine Song uses romcom frills and conventions for initial appearances only to reveal a somber and honest dissection of modern dating, the terrifying unpredictability of authentic connection, and the fear we all have of being deemed worthless in an increasingly shallow society. It even sticks to the romcom tradition of being a little deranged, still mulling over some decisions that were made but I love how offbeat and weird it is, not shying away from our ugliness while having a heart of gold. Wherever you watch the film -- perhaps at DC/DOX on June 14th, 2025 -- you are going to feel like you are in…
"There was a quote I reading from Scorsese about how he was kind of taken aback when somebody says that you're an independent filmmaker, cause what he wanted more than anything - cause he loved John Ford and those people - was to make big Hollywood studio movies."
The impact of “Jaws” on contemporary cinema has been so thoroughly researched, prosecuted and scientifically proved that it has taken on the contours of catechism: Lo, it came to that Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Peter Benchley’s best-selling novel about a man-eating great white shark opened in a record number of theaters, became the first film to earn more than $100 million at the box office and thus invented the modern Hollywood blockbuster, transforming and redefining (or — tomato/tomahto —…
