On the Count of Three

2021

★★★½

A buddy comedy that explores the difference between being in a slump versus actually wrestling with legitimate mental illness. Always dig Chris Abbott as a performer, but he also ittedly has started to border on becoming a cliche of the “young, intense, brooding actor”. So, it filled me with no small amount of joy to watch him pull off such a nuanced, hilarious turn that’s also deeply comionate. This is the sort of idiosyncratic, personal genre debut I sign up to attend fests for.
