The Weeknd does a Prince-in-Purple-Rain, playing a simultaneously vulnerable and potentially unlikable version of himself, which I doubly respect. In this case, though, rather than living in a relatively grounded world of music and family problems, he collides with Jenna Ortega in a combination of Black Snake Moan and Misery, with cinematography out of Into The Void.

Crazy, stunning ultra-espionage film that starts amazing but can't keep up the impossible pace it sets for itself or figure out something to replace it. It's openly a film where things will only make sense in retrospect, but even then there are glaring inconsistencies and flaws. Has a deft touch with quickly drawing characters, but nothing they do or encounter is all that interesting, and then explanations make the mysteries less interesting still. Also would probably feel more original if Don't Breathe didn't exist. But at least it manages to never insult my intelligence, which may seem like a low bar but a lot of horror movies don't meet it.
