I gave "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" a . Yes I got bored, but I enjoyed the journey back to Middle-Earth. I have always been in love with Tolkien's world. And I thought I would be able to give this movie the as well.

I can't. I want to say yes run out and see this movie. It physically pains me to say this movie is a mess. The movie lacks focus, has too many blink and you miss it characters, and the special effects are bad. Maybe we are at a spot with special effects when it actually looks photorealistic but everything else looks fake. I'll just be blunt, the movie looked like a video game. From the orcs, to the barrels, to the villain himself Smaug.

Let me point out the two good things about this movie. The Barrels and Bilbo's first encounter with Smaug. Two good things which might be a total running length of thirty minutes out of a two hour plus film. That is painful. You might as well throw me into Mount Doom over and over again instead of making me rewatch this film.

Yes "The Hobbit" is a smaller story than "The Lord of the Rings" and yes it was written for children. So stop trying to make everything connect. I would love an actual hobbit movie just stop trying to make me want to rewatch those films instead of the one I'm watching now. Peter Jackson your plan to make a giant interconnected film has failed, when you add characters who shouldn't be in this story here and make them serve no purpose all it makes me want to do is watch the films in which they actually do something.

The Desolation of Smaug is for me The Desolation of Jackson. He is taking a story I grew up reading and shoving it down my throat and making me question his love for Tolkien.
