I liked it! But all that ghost of hip hop future stuff was lame as hell and it's a shame they got lazy with the big fight at the end.
How do the vampires get invited in? By turning the steely-cool lady into an irrational mentalist the second her family’s threatened. Is there a mad mother trope? I dunno but I feel like it's been done to death.
For me, this was very bitty. A huge time spent setting up with "and then this happened" with very little emotional impact. Telegraphed plot points as attempted gut punches, I thought. Obviously gorgeous animation but I did think the script was pretty dumb and going for quite obvious emotional beats. Maybe I'm being unfair but it did seem like it was just full of "wouldn't it be sad if this happened" moments. Yes it would be, but so what?
