a david lynch movie about an old guy who grew up on a farm in minnesota? are you kidding me? obviously, ofcourse, definitely. disney world should make a ride based off this.

people who don't think this is lynchian through and through are simply wrong honestly, it taps into the core themes of his work, the love and empathy that human beings can share with each other in spite of or because of trauma and pain, and that there is beauty all around us, even if it takes a 300 mile lawnmower ride to fully witness this. cried about 50 times, but one of those movies that makes your soul heal, that gives you the elixir to your suffering, a film that only david lynch could have made and legitimately one of the most moving cinematic or just artistic experiences i've been fortunate enough to experience. also a few other things, the handling…

Today is a deeply sad day. Luckily I had this movie... and was able to cry with a smile. For this, for the fascination of a completely unique cinema, for the becoming of an adjective, for so much more and from the bottom of my heart: many, many thanks and godspeed, David Lynch.

Angelo Badalamenti's score swells with pure emotion. Similar to another brilliant and beautiful story, Paris, Texas, (there's way too many commas there) this is about a man on the path to redemption. Similar to that movie, this is a pure mannered, unmelodramatic weeper.

Little by little, this curious man is unpacked like a Russian doll. Across Iowa to Wisconsin, cornfields galore on his small lawn mower, we're truly in the midwest. And as the film unfolds, we're confronted with a man whose crippled old frame belies his brutal past: a past of war and alcoholism and brotherly love and loss and children reared amidst violence and tempers. It's almost unbearably close to home.
