Bad movies exist. They have existed and will continue to always exist. The Electric State is a bad movie directed by two people who would ironically be the villain of their own movie. It’s images lack any semblance of life and in lieu of any meaningful storytelling, it opts for exposition dumps set to Now That’s What I Call Music: Vol 7 needle drops. Why explore a theme when we can have Milly Bobby Brown lethargically tell you them to the camera? Literally.

All this to say, I’m not concerned that the movie is bad, I’m concerned as to what this represents for the state of the art. The Russos are not artists. They probably would agree with that. They are…

Whatever your expectations for a (supposedly) $320 million Russo brothers Netflix movie starring Chris Pratt as a Chris Pratt type, Millie Bobby Brown as a wannabe Edward Furlong, and Woody Harrelson as the voice of an animatronic Mr. Peanut, I would recommend that you lower them.

Insincere butchering of the cold desolation depicted by the incredible artist Simon Stalenhag. 

Why you trying to make this funny and cute? It’s a creepy dystopian nightmare world. Barely even indulged in the landscapes which is the entire point of the story.

Incredible opportunity cost, utter waste of resources (one of the most expensive films ever made). Tonally completely fucked, every actor playing themselves, I could go on. Avoid.
