That one sequence. You’ll know it when you see it. Magnum opus type scene. Spirit awakening type scene. Inspirational, foundational, monumental.

A horror film that spends an entire hour setting up characters, place, and time so that when people start dying you actually give a shit.
Pretty sure this entered “classic” status in my heart when the Asian characters opened their mouths for the first time in a film set in 1932 and spoke with a southern accent.
The ‘conjuring spirits’ scene is one of the boldest swings I have seen in a blockbuster produced in my lifetime. Fucking cool. First time I’ve seen a post-credits scene that feels both narratively important and necessarily placed after the credits. Always nice to get a reminder that Delroy Lindo is undoubtedly one of the best actors alive. Love Wunmi Mosaku so much. Classically Horror segment in the middle where characters are yell-at-the-screen-frustratingly-dumb but it builds to a GREAT moment where you can feel the entire theater squirm in discomfort of what we know is coming. Terrific theater experience. So fun to watch with a crowd. Impeccably paced too, the kind of movie you can watch multiple times in a weekend…
