I understand why this is the case, but it bums me out that the conversation around how emotional movies like this never talk about how funny or charming they are. Like that’s what really made me love this movie. At one point I turned to my friend and joked “this shit makes me wanna go prison” but I did kind of mean it! The cast of characters we meet here are such lovely, full people, and I could’ve lived here for much longer. I had a happy cry to the scene when they’re all dancing. Also loved seeing the actual play! Clarence Maclin should’ve been in Oscar conversations! Colman Domingo remains That Guy and it’s his Oscar to lose imo.
