Therapy through art
Touching and ever so sweet. A nice look into the everyman and their struggle with dealing with tragedy correctly. Incredibly relatable for anyone who’s father locks everything behind a wall even when glaringly obvious they need help
Dan felt so normal and ordinary in a great way, I really would forget that this was a movie from time to time and I thought it was a documentary about some dad trying to push himself in some way. That’s super sick
Sometimes it feels a bit too heavy handed, a little too on the nose every moment without build up. But overall extremely enjoyable
What a treat it is to know that films like this exist and will hopefully continue existing
4th watch cause I flew home so obviously had to see it with my siblings 🫶🏽 my sister roasted my whole performance, no one is safe
Wonderful film a about a grieving family that is mired in the processing of their grief. The teenage daughter, Daisy (Katherine Mallen-Kupferer) is lashing out in school on the brink of expulsion. Her father, Dan (and father in real life, Keith Kupferer), is a typical gruff father with pent up anger and sadness, but no idea how to process or even recognize his emotions. But when Dan makes acquaintance with Rita (Dolly De Leon) and she forces him into their local production of Romeo and Juliet, Dan finds an avenue to access some of his deepest emotions that were previously out of reach and perhaps
finds reconnection with his wife and daughter.
Ghostlight is just a really lovely film highlighting…
A hauntingly blindsiding film. So this film holds a phantom element throughout with dropping backstory intermittently. We obviously find a family dealing with grief and find it being released in a unique setting that keeps you wanting to see more and find out where this material is going.
The performances here are really solid even with some of this non-professional charm but Keith Kupferer(Dan) really nails the grieving catharsis moment and daughter Katherine Mallen Kupferer(Daisy) brings charm with her sand in the vaseline challenging daughter situation and also hats off to Tara Mallen(Sharon) who acts as a multidimensioned mother who has also had the burden and then Dolly de Leon(Rita)... who comes in with full flair of equal parts mean…
GHOSTLIGHT profoundly examines a blue collar father’s grief through a scrappy community theatre production of Romeo & Juliet. Undeniably sweet, with two fantastic performances from Keith Kupferer & Dolly de Leon. Nice to see Keith be given a showcase role such as this that asks him to chart some painful emotional territory. A tender, sometimes schmaltzy, but relatable & appealing story of the healing power of art.
THE HEALING POWER OF ART ❤️
The title of this movie, "Ghostlight," refers to a a single lamp placed on stage to keep the theatre from being in total darkness after everyone's gone. a safety light. a light to provide illumination for the “theatre ghosts”. a light to ensure good luck by always having the stage illuminated.
