I loved this movie so much and am so proud of and happy for Tim and Andrew because they pulled off something equal parts hilarious, devastating, and scary but really all I can think about right now is I saw this in the same theater as Marc Maron and I saw him as my partner and I were leaving and upon seeing him I just instinctually pointed at him and said loudly to my partner “that’s Marc Maron” and now I’m in our car spiraling because I’d be so embarrassed if he heard me.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Man I really fucking needed this. Absolutely hilarious, stupid as shit, just what you need to have a little smile from everything else right now. Forgot all my pain for a nice lil 100 minutes to transport to Tim and Andrew’s bizzaro land mentality of sporadic outbursts and perfectly timed bits. Gold
Also loved the 2 minute silent hill 2 sequence
Also loved the funniest recorded Q+A aftershow to ever exist (I also watched porn on the 3Ds)
For my money, this is the strongest Tim Robinson’s character has ever worked. I love I Think You Should Leave as much as everyone, but more times than not the directing of the normal people/extras is stilted in a way that hampers their potential contrast with the skits’ crazy character. Simply put, they all ham it up too much. Andrew DeYoung has done a fantastic job avoiding this pitfall here. In Friendship the performances of everyone on screen are stellar, and they allow Tim’s insanity (which is also more withheld and saved for key moments) to shine. With this grounding, this movie plays like a version of Punch-Drunk Love that relishes in its main character’s social neuroses and outbursts. We are invited to…
this movie will be the “Step Brothers” and “Anchorman” for a new generation of teens to hyperfixate on
Hollywood is far more interesting when people like Tim Robinson are leading movies
an entertaining night at the theater giggling at a feature length i think you should leave sketch. really fun stuff.
