“I everything.”
I everything. I couldn’t put this film into words if I tried. I couldn’t ever review this, or even explain how personal this felt to me. Every kiss, every movement, every laugh, every dance, every look, goodbye, embrace. If I could, I couldn’t even begin.
“I everything.”
I don’t think there’s anything more beautiful, real, or brutal than the way Elio repeats, “Because I wanted you to know.”
Because I wanted you to know.
Loving someone is hard, whether it’s the butterflies you get in the beginning or the weight of the world you feel towards the end. I’ve realized through my relationship that love doesn’t make sense, and with my now 9 viewings of this film, that this movie doesn’t make sense to me either. I truly don’t understand, I could never understand, how Luca, Ivory, and the cast pulled this off. The feeling of love is so hard to replicate because everyone experiences it differently, but there’s something so universal about the looks Elio’s parents…

best picture showcase: film #7
it just doesn’t click. a gorgeous facade, masking the vagueness of the dialogue and intentions and feelings of the characters. dripping with scenic appeal, but i’m only slightly charmed by it. what tries to be one of the most sincere movies in years only feels hollow to me, even when i try to let it in. oliver and elio are different ages, but it’s the maturity level that bothers me here: one, a man, going out by himself until dawn. the other, only a boy, sitting with his parents, being read a fairlytale while it rains outside. he puffs out his chest and acts older than his age. and that’s what it is: an act.…
would it send my italian exchange student the wrong idea if i showed him this film

For Oliver, it was a summer fling.
But for Elio, it was everything.

cw: abuse, violation of consent
This year's token queer representation at awards season returns to the fertile grounds Moonlight broke free of: mixing watered-down queerness with predatory stereotypes.
There's a way to tell this story without delving into this kind of relationship. What this film wants to be is bittersweet. What this film wants to be is quiet, contemplative, achingly beautiful, the feeling of a crush requited, the feeling of discovery and awakening. And you can see that it achieves this with significant portions of its audience, but to engage with that you have to ignore some glaring red flags.
The film goes out of its way to tell us some things: Elio is 17. Elio is a virgin. Elio…

I don't get the hype that this movie gets.
This movie is so problematic and fucking ridiculous. One of the worst representation of bisexual men that I have seen. Here's a list of the things that make me angry or make me roll my eyes:
1) The age gap and the power dynamics were uncomfortable to watch. Elio is obviously too immature for a relationship with an adult and I felt like Oliver really liked to be in power.
2) Slurping or blow jobs sounds were INTENSE (also the peach sounds lol)
3) STOP MAKING BISEXUALS CHEAT ON THEIR FUCKING LOVER -from an angry bisexual :( Thanks for the stereotypessssss fuck off
4) STOP USING WOMEN TO MAKE THE OTHER…

i knew elio's dad had too much emotional intelligence to be a straight man
