A brilliantly written, structured and executed social drama that takes up an imperative and sensitive Metoo sexual abuse topic, places it within a highly realistic theatre group setting with varied personalities reflecting the society and explores the inherent patriarchal male behaviors in a pretty much funny, non preachy and non judgmental manner, making it all the more powerful and open to discussions.
What fascinated me the most was its thought provoking psychological layering. In an opportunistic greed driven world, is there even anything called an authentic moral com OR is it just a facade that can be easily broken at a suitable price tag. We could call the act as hypocrisy, narcissistic or fickle mindedness, after all the self-interest drive…

Men☕
Excellent writing and Wordplay throughout the movie. Each and every character is well written and layered, the layers are unpacked beautifully and it just sheds light into the society and reality that not everyone around you is there for your best intrest. The humor in this movie was something I did not expect and it was hilarious.
Men written by men has brought out most of the feable insecurities that men carry around and how deep they can go to cover up and save their image in the society.
The performances were amazing , Zarin is my new favourite actress and this is my no 1 Malayalam movie for 2024 as of now .
Excited for his next writer/directorial venture.

When Vinay asked "Has any of us even thought her in that way?", everybody subtly bows their head down.
The purest "This is cinema" moment I ever had.
There's no simple way to describe Anand Ekarshi's Aattam. It is both a play and a movie. It is also a play within a play within a movie. However, above all, Aattam stands out as one of the most brilliant Malayalam movies in recent times. The film also exposes male hypocrisy and how men, ultimately, wield influence even in matters they lack understanding of. Aattam, simultaneously, shows how the burden consistently falls on women to prove the authenticity of their experiences, whereas men often receive a free without needing any explanations.
It was quite fascinating to see the movie having a whodunit structure throughout its narrative and then swiftly and smoothly reaching a point where it ignores the who…

Anand Ekarshi's #Aattam is exceptional, thought provoking and beautiful. A roshomonesque whodunnit that culminates at a straight forward statement - 'all men are trash'. Exceptional debut from the director and Zarin Shihab is love!
2024 started off with a bang for me!
Anand Ekarshi commented on my first review and I got to know it now. FML.

Seems like the simulation is crashing, people are hiding while some are coming out. Let time prove everything, hoping for the best.
A change is necessary, a shift to the right direction, let new people come and make cinema wonderful and a safe space again.
This is a without a double, absolute best movie of the year of the year. brilliantly made. Real cinema. No need of big stars or extravagant sets or rich props. Just pure art. Although a drama movie but not a single dull moment. Performances are on point. Everything is just perfect. Best part is you tend to relate with each character's pov with respect to the subject matter at least once. Malayalam cinema needs more recognition.
It's been a long time since I've strong screenplay like this and each character is designed with details distinction.
The movie doesn't blame any specific gender. Characters are perfectly written to exhibit how corrupt and evil the human mind is. Gender has nothing to…
TW/ Sexual abuse
It isn't the solid writing that got to me, it's the honesty with which Anand Ekarshi has approached the topic of sexual abuse and has highlighted the indifference shown towards it by the people around us. The film is cathartic in a way; anyone who's survived abuse can understand the pain and isolation Anjali goes through, and the film does justice to her character.
Yaa mwonea set padam, smart and funny at the same time. Can't wait to see what this director cooks up next
