“Your brother is attacking the Great Houses…The Holy War begins.”
WARNING: Contains spoilers for Dune & Dune: Messiah
Alright, it’s been long enough for me go deep into spoilers. I loved how epic this film was, and how it continued to build upon the world established in Part One. Especially Geidi Prime & Fremen Culture. Loved that Feyd was an almost teacher’s pet to his Uncle mimicking his very voice. I loved Irulan being a weird antisocial Bene gesserit podcaster. I loved how powerful the Bene gesserit in general were. Lady Jessica is an opportunistic manipulator here and I loved every second of it. I loved Zendaya’s Chani whos every bit as fierce as she is in the books but she’s way more apprehensive of prophecy. A big change from the books is the discourse amongst the Fremen but I love it because Denis is planting the seeds for Dune: Messiah. Chani being fearful of Fremen being enslaved to a prophecy that’ll leave many dead, and guess what? She’s 100% right. Paul, by the end of this film is a savage enthusiastic maniac waging war on the great houses to fulfill his own terrible purpose. I adored almost everything about this movie, actually seeing the Jihad- oh sorry- “Holy war” begin was so damn impactful to me. In the books, it’s mentioned & described but it’s all left to the imagination for the most part. However, seeing legions of radicalized Fremen led by Stilgar to wage wars across the universe sent a chill down my spine and it was immensely satisfying to see. Ugh, I love this movie. I’m rambling, but I feel like that’s all I can do, it’s just an overwhelmingly experience.
