Your father was a weak man who'd lead to the rules of the heart. But the heart is not meant to rule.

Denis Villeneuve is a cinematic sorcerer. His attention to detail within the continuity of Frank Herbert’s DUNE IS exceptional. Denis Villeneuve is our generations George Lucas; he has mastered the craft of storytelling in the sci-fi genre. I feel that Villeneuve doesn’t get the credit he deserves, and Dune part 1 and 2 have put him on the stage front and centre - yes I am aware of his other masterpieces, but I’m speaking generally towards sci-fi and his directing style that have lead to some of the most memorable and visually stunning works. From the harkonnen suits that help them float to the Atreides and Fremen armour worn during battle. Distinctively designed and created, the world of dune is better than Star Wars (my opinion, deal with it) and maybe it’s because of the politics woven through the characters and the story in the form of different planets and civilisations and how it influences and carries their every movement but definitely performance wise and world building wise I’m much more invested in Frank Herbert’s work through Denis Villeneuve.
The film begins through the narration of Princess Irulan (played by the beautiful Florence Pugh) she records her findings on the rise and fall of House Atreides; following the suspicions of the “fallen” Paul Atreides. Paul is taken under the wing of Stilgar who trains him to become Fremen and fulfill the prophecy of becoming to Messiah; known by the Fremen as Usul Muad'Dib and Bene Gesserit as Kwisatz Haderach.
Did I cry when Atreides rode his first worm???!!….YES…YES I DID, It was such an overwhelming scene chalamet did a terrific job (I still don’t like him but Atreides I can definitely get behind)
Where do I start when it comes to the Harkkonnen’s, the introduction to Feyd-Rautha (Played by Austin Butler) was actually terrifying; he absolutely embodied the role - his elvis accent slipped so much - but the intensity of his character struck such a chord in me I was so genuinely appalled by this man and how ruthless, sociopathic and sadistic he was. Rautha had an indestructible nature (and was incredibly kinky) I laughed when lady Margot Fenring said he liked pain and that he killed his mother just because he could. Paint me Gobsmacked. The Harkonnen’s in general are such oddly kinky ppl and it took me all about 3 seconds to figure this out through the intro of Feyd 🤣. Addressing the rumours about Barry Keoghan taking on the role; I just know he would have absolutely killed this role but Austin brings this intimidating sense of egotistical power and ego to life like no other. Call me weird but I thoroughly enjoyed when Feyd and Paul fought each other and Feyd congratulated him on being a good fighter (the sound design of the combat scene with the blades against each other *im on my knees*); and as someone who is obsessed with psychotic on screen characters - this bald headed mother fucker knows when it’s his time, but he’s only willing to give his last to someone who has earned it aka the messiah he also just loves pain and for someone who’s apart of the biggest prophecy in Dune, I felt like he saw this as a privilege to die at the hands of someone who isn’t afraid to spill blood where it needs. You can see this when Atreides arrives at the scene of the harkonne’s and the emperor, Paul kills the Barron right before saying “hello grandfather” NO BECAUSE I AUDIBLY GASPED !?? THAT MOTHER FUCKER IS A ATREIDES AND A HARKONNEN!??!!? Oh how part 3 will end me
When Atreides fulfills the prophecy; he brings this dominant power, this ascension to his rightful place as heir to the world of Dune, making the emperor kiss his house ring - for a moment the emperor opposes - but Paul puts his foot down in such a powerful way, he’s come into a power like no other and he will not take no for an answer (I’m surprised I didn’t cringe at this part only because Timothee is such a twink so kudos to him for upholding that dominant leader energy)
Also cried again when Paul rubs his signet ring and says “father, I have found my way” ITS ALL OVER FOR ME 😭😭❤️
This WILL go down with some of the best sequels of all time; alongside Peter Jackson’s return of the king, The godfather II and so much more. I’m genuinely so happy to have absolutely no issues or complaints about this film, the pacing, acting, storytelling, storyline, costume design, dialogue and world building is the best of the best 💪🎬❤️.
