Four Favorites with Ridley Scott and Fede Álvarez

Alien director Ridley Scott and Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez share their four favorites.

At the Hollywood premiere of Fede Álvarez’s Blade Runner. And rightfully so—his seminal sci-fi-noir “has set the pace for many, many, many, many things,” in Scott's own words. He also chooses an underseen 1981 Cro-Magnon adventure with no spoken language, which, thanks to his recommendation, has already enjoyed a Xenomorph Queen-sized watchlist bump.

Álvarez is up next, and he acknowledges the difference between “favorite” and “best” before deciding on the second in a popular three-entry time-traveling saga. Actually, he selects the second film in Park Chan-wook’s loose Vengeance Trilogy, too, saying it “changed my life, made me rethink cinema completely and really sent me in a completely different direction of what I was going to [do] with my own film and what I wanna do as a filmmaker.”
