Four Favorites with Kneecap

Raucous Belfast rap trio Kneecap—Móglaí Bap, DJ Próvai and Mo Chara—share their four favorite films.

Kneecap member and now Kneecap star Mo Chara kicks things off with an Irish classic in Steve McQueen’s ode to West Belfast hero Bobby Sands: “It’s not one to watch if you’re hungover.” (don’t worry, Móglaí Bap has the antidote to this later). Elsewhere, Tarantino gets a shoutout, as does Martin McDonagh.

For Próvai, he refuses spoilers, but embraces great actors and soundtracks, and Mo Chara takes us home with John Carney’s ode to ’80s music-making teens, an unsung Belfast gem, a horror classic, and a mission to get Aretha Franklin’s name right. English is his second language, after all.

Kneecap is in US and Irish theaters now, and arrives in the UK on August 23. For more Kneecap, watch them read your Letterboxd reviews of their film here
