The next follow up to the Fear Street trilogy follows a group of teens in a prom that soon turns deadly very quickly.

I the hype of the fear street trilogy through many of the Gen Z community and they released a movie every week for 3 weeks and it had great marketing for Netflix. I absolutely think the best of that trilogy is the 2nd film with Sadie Sink.

The Fear Street trilogy is long gone but the franchise continues on in this 80s horror slasher film about kids at a prom. Can this film deliver on all the hype?

I came here to say that nope, this is by far the weakest movie of the fear street trilogy by far.

The biggest issue with this movie is the lack of 80s nostalgia even though it’s set in the 80s. The 80s soundtrack feels like a first time viewer who gets into the 80s yesterday and the production and costume design is souless and lack of fortunate taste.

The kills are decent but of the previous 3 films did it better. What worked better in those is that it feels one big story and has kinetic pace to them. Here just feels like a film that disconnects the charm as well and also a compelling story.

Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025) is a dull film that has lack of direction and style. At least there is likeable leads in this film because without it, it just feels forced with its horror elements and a coming to age story that is bland and underwhelming that made this prom not a night to be ed.

Now on Netflix!

New Beverly Cinema Presents:
Raging Bull (35MM Print)
Directed By:
Martin Scorsese

I have officially fulfilled my dream to visit Quentin Tarantino’s theater The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles and managed to catch a film there which is the 1980 classic Raging Bull which stars Robert DeNiro and is directed by Martin Scorsese.

Based on a true story about Championship fighter Jake LaMotta and his life in the ring and his personal life which has its ups and downs but take a toll of his marriage and his life.

Martin Scorsese  said that Raging Bull was probably gonna be his last film due to his mental health and his drug addiction. It was DeNiro who gave Scorsese the idea and motivation to let him to make Raging Bull. 45 years on is Raging Bull a timeless classic?

This film is not only one of the best films of the 80s but one of the best sports films ever made.

This is the film that brought Scorsese into the map after a long line of critical failures which the sounding feels dated but this was one of the best films early of his career.

This was also the movie that made DeNiro a household name in his second Academy Award win from The Godfather Part II. Easily one of the best performances of actors playing real life people in which DeNiro disappeared into the role of LaMotta who is an aggressive New Yorker who his personality made his uprising rise to his lowest of lows in very sinful ways.

The first time I watched it I liked it but didn’t really love it on first viewing. However seeing it with a full crowd made me liked this movie even more.

Raging Bull (1980) is one of Scorsese biggest triumphs as a filmmaker with 50+ years in this industry. He is indeed one of the greats with no misstep in him. It truly made the duo of Scorsese and DeNiro in one of the greatest collaborations in cinematic history.

Seeing it at a 35MM print really is something to be seen and seeing it at The New Beverly Cinema really is a dream come true and easily one of the best things about this visit in Los Angeles California 👍.

A group of soldiers must encounter in a forbidden planet where strange things are occurring. They must discover why is this planet forbidden and why strange things are happening.

The 1950s may not be one of the best decades for cinema but they do introduce a new wave of Sci Fi that goes all the way through the 1970s.

The Sci fi genre in the 1950s sure is a lot different before Star Wars and Star Trek was made.

This film may be exposition heavy and a lot darker at times but man was this a very enjoyable film.

The best part easily to this film is the production design which was never seen before especially that cgi bit at the end.

Before Airplane and Naked Gun fame, Leslie Nielsen was once a serious actor and this was easily one of his first roles and he felt like a veteran actor up to that point.

Forbidden Planet (1956) definitely feel like one of those films that resembles a lot from that twilight zone era of how original the premise is and obscure in style. Definitely an underrated film that i recommend seeing.

Focus Features Presents:
The Phoenician Scheme
Directed By:
Wes Anderson

Focus Features and Screen Rant has invited me and my family to a special advanced screening of Wes Anderson’s new film The Phoenician Scheme at the famous AMC The Grove so let’s talk about it.

Famous Architect Zsa Zsa Korda has survived a fatal death by a minute at a disastrous plane crash only to be brought to life a minute later. Korda then s her daughter who is a nun in which both start a family business to restore their own monumental masterpieces.

Wes Anderson has been one of the most popular and most visionary filmmaker of the modern era who made masterpieces like Fantastic Mr. Fox and Grand Budapest Hotel. However his recent projects haven’t reached the heights of his earlier era. I absolutely really liked The French Dispatch and Loved Asteroid City even though some people weren’t a fan of that movie. So to answer the question does Wes has a lot in him to make The Phoenician Scheme his next masterpiece or his underwhelming blow?

On my first viewing of this film, I really am I bit underwhelmed by this movie and I do think it’s Wes weakest film since Darjeeling Limited.

Let me start with my problems and I do think the first half of this movie kinda dragged a bit with his storytelling and the story structure isn’t as fleshed out as his other films and it does suffer with some tonal issues in which sometimes the film is very serious and sometimes really goofy. I also find it sometimes convoluted that some characters didn’t have the time to be fleshed out.

That is my negatives so let me get into my positives and I do think Wes Anderson taking a risk with this movie shows how much he still have as an auteur. This movie is very hilarious at times and has some visually beautiful shots. Benicio Del Toro is very good as the lead but the best actors of the movie is first time Anderson collaborations Mia Threapleton and Michael Cera who absolutely stole the show for me. They both fit the world of Wes Anderson and fit in their roles great.

The Phoenician Scheme (2025) I think is Anderson’s lesser efforts to date but it is still good. What made me like it a bit more is how much different and original the storytelling is. Some people may say Anderson has reached his breaking point but some people think it’s another solid film from Anderson. I wanted to love it more but I overall liked it at the end of the day and it’s Anderson’s loosely film yet and may play better in future watches!

Make sure to see this film when it hits NYC and California selected theaters on May 30 and Nationwide on June 6!

Mattel Presents:
Down The Mine (Lost Episode)
Directed By:
David Mitton

Last week a part of lost media from an iconic British children’s tv series Thomas and Friends was ed on YouTube from The Mattel of the OG pilot Down The Mine which was considered lost media since the early 1980s with it being gone for 40+ years.

The first major entertainment content I watched since I was a toddler is Thomas and Friends. There is probably many of you who grew up with children series from different cable companies like Cartoon Network for Adventure Time and Amazing World of Gumball, Nickelodeon for SpongeBob and Jimmy Neutron, Disney Channel with Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place, but from the ages 1-8 I was obsessed with their PBS shows.

When I got introduced to this series, I collected the dvds, the toys, and the books. You can tell this show means everything for me as a kid.

When I heard the news that a part of lost media for this show has been uncovered, I hoped into YouTube and saw the episode so hear is my thoughts.

This episode was actually the original version of Down The Mine from the season 1 finale. Supposedly this was supposed to be the pilot episode of the series which greenlit the series and it was shelved for decades.

This restoration is absolutely great, definitely feels so clean and felt it could come out in modern day. Made me miss the model series but here I got emotional that I had to make a review.

Down The Mine (2025) is a heartfelt and nostalgic for old Thomas fans. Brings back a lot of good memories and a great tribute for the 80th anniversary of the Thomas brand!

Thanks Mattel for bringing back our childhood one last time 🙏 and rest in peace Britt Alcroft the creator of the series (1943-2025) 🌹

Led Zeppelin is a rock band many consider to be the founding fathers of the rock and roll era full of rock music from the 60s-70s. In this documentary explores the origins on how this band got together and made a huge impact on the music industry forever.

They interviewed the last 3 remaining of Led Zeppelin which are Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones and the late John Bonham in archival recorded footage. I saw this on the plane and here is my thoughts.

Let me start with my negatives and I feel that the pacing of this documentary felt very disted. The first 40 minutes felt like it was getting repetitive  storytelling that we’ve seen in past documentaries but once they formed as a band, the movie itself becomes a concert experience with not alot of interview segments. It may be all over the place but the 2nd half was way better than the first half.

Now my positives and I feel the film itself plays a very well done homage knowing the band mates and their resume and life story before they became Led Zeppelin. Like Led Zeppelin is considered one of the best musical bands of all time on the same level almost to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, they are highly influential and what this documentary did so well is how much lore it is behind it and tells its origins in solid ways.

Becoming Led Zeppelin (2025) is nowhere near some of the best musical documentaries but the technical achievements of the clean restoration behind the musical concert sequences as well telling from a lense of a British band who came from small to a part of our musical pop culture is way beyond people’s ears and mouths and that’s why 50+ years Led Zeppelin still lives on and will forever live on through many decades to come.

3 brothers has reunited to a trip to India after grief of their dad has ed away. They all spark on an adventure to find their spirituality of themselves.

Wes Anderson is easily one of the best filmmakers of the 21st century in which is distinctive style remains memorable in film pop culture.

Back then, Wes Anderson became a household name for making The Royal Tenenbaums which has probably one of the most stacked and memorable cast. He then made The Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou in which at the time has mixed reactions for some reason but then became a cult classic.

Comes his next project in 2007 The Darjeeling Limited a film that stars Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman and it’s Wes Anderson first film that fully made him go internationally.

At the time, critics were giving ok reviews but not great and it’s considered his second weakest film after Life Aquatic. 2 decades later, does this hold up the hype?

Even though not Wes Anderson top best films, this could be his most personal and emotional film. This film follows 3 brothers suffering through grief and pain but there is something about them traveling to India that made this extra special.

Wes Anderson is a filmmaker that early in his career he explores coming to age dramas about growing up. All 3 actors fits this film very good but the way how it’s directed and how colorful this film is shows how much enjoyment this film has even though how gloomy things may be.

The Darjeeling Limited (2007) is once again one of the most underrated Wes Anderson films that managed to be his most spiritually restrained film yet. The score is great and the cinematography is grand. This film remains important to Wes Anderson filmography and so glad he made this.

Final Destination Bloodlines has just hit the cinema screens this week so let’s talk about this sequel to a memorable horror franchise.

Death always come where nobody anticipates it and this time a family is being affected by the death curse that has spawned decades of bad luck. Is up to Stephanie to stop the curse and the nightmares she has of her grandma for good.

The Final Destination franchise is a decent and solid franchise that remains consistent with every installment since the first ( I’m not talking to you Final Destination 4!)

So when it comes to this installment, I absolutely dig the marketing which barely showed the plot of this 5th movie of the franchise. So to answer the question, Is it any good?

I would say this film is my 3rd favorite of the franchise since the first and third film.

This also serves as a sequel but also a complete reboot that doesn’t take the rehashed plot of the first 4 films and this time the characters got some major character development that gives the characters some personalities.

Kaitlyn Santa Juana plays Stefani Lewis a failing student who have to skip school to warn her family that death is coming and danger is coming. She was actually pretty solid and a compelling lead character.

The film answers questions as well as making a film so refreshing that keeps the franchise going strong. Nobody is safe in these movies but here death plays a bigger threat than ever before and nobody is really safe in this movie.

Final Destination Bloodlines (2025) is the newest entry of The Final Destination franchise that is the franchise very best in a long time. Fear plays a big part but in here also has a bit humor but also fleshed out characters like ever before. One of this year’s best horror films.

This review is also dedicated to the late Tony Todd who was wonderful in the screentime he has and may he rest in peace (1954-2024) 🌹

A film that made its key stars into a household name like the dynamic Vince Vaughn and the genius of John Faverau. It’s also Doug Liman’s breakout debut and it follows a group of young bros hanging out and they are known as Swingers. They mingle and hang out with their future counterpart in which Vince Vaughn knows how to nail very well. John Faverau’s character is having a hard time finding a girl of his dreams in which he struggled at. It’s up to Vaughn’s character Trent teaches Faverau’s character Mike Peters how to be a swinger of swings.

Premiered at the Venice film festival back in 1996 to groundbreaking success, I always wanted to see this film for a while now, but with some of my friends recommending this film and it’s a film I should heavily check out since I’m going to Vegas and Los Angeles so I decided to fully check out.

I absolutely really had a blast of this film and knowing me I really do love the hangout genre and it could really well be my favorite genre.

I read that Spielberg was so blown away by Vince Vaughn performance that he decided to cast him in the Jurassic Park sequel. He definitely delivers of one of the best performances of 1996. John Favareau is officially the lead of this film and surprisingly wrote the screenplay which is a ion project of his.

His writing definitely fits an era of the great indie new wave scenes of the 90s and he gave a very solid performance. Favareau is one of the few filmmakers who created a genre of his written and directed films. He made one of the best Christmas films, he made the MCU as it is now, and he is one of the fundamental principles on creating Disney + as it is today with The Mandalorian.

I really do like his commitment on being an actor, filmmaker, and screenwriter. He’s one of the very few filmmakers who is committed deeply in high profile projects and I’m glad he started off strong in the beginning of his career.

Swingers (1996) is an underrated 90s indie film that not a lot of people talk about. It’s crazy that the 90s were a different time and different atmosphere as well. A lot of breakout stars in the era but without this film we wouldn’t get the genius of Favareau, Vaughn’s dynamic screentime, and Doug Liman’s as a filmmaker that made a lot of the most underrated films of his career. Such an important film of its time!

Known as one time the last chapter of the final destination franchise follows a major accident that happened in a bridge that caused all the survivors into utter shock. The death game continues in this gamble on who will have their ultimate fate next.

Definitely better than the previous film but I would say this is in 4th place. Thematically and some character development is not always the greatest but it sure does have some the best twist and turns of the franchise.

The film itself is not as good but that twist ending is easily the best ending of the entire franchise and it does saved the movie big time.

Final Destination 5 (2011) is a decent film that has compelling lore behind it and way smarter than it normally deserves. Has probably the darkest third act of any final destination film yet and has some of the darkest kills in its franchise history.

Lionsgate Presents:
Hurry Up Tomorrow
Directed By:
Trey Edward Shults

Based on Abel’s final album of The Weeknd, follows Abel struggle with fame and is being kidnapped by Jenna Ortega’s character who is obsessed with him.

Let me start with the positives and seeing this with a group of The Weeknd fans and the sound department remains the best part of this movie with tremendous sound effects during my screening and there is no doubt The Weeknd knows how to make his projects with a lot of amazing visuals and his soundtrack here is one of the key highlights.

Now let’s talk about the rest of the movie and Oh man, idk what I just watched, like WTF is this movie. This film is easily way too overexposed and is just all over the place.

The film itself is one of the messiest films of the year so far and I do think the story itself is very bleak and the dialogue is very clunky and sometimes cringe.

You can tell that Abel is trying his best with his acting chops here after his negative reception in HBO’s The Idol but I still don’t think as of now, he still hasn’t reached the heights of his acting abilities. You can clearly see he tried and some scenes he actually did decently.

I do think Jenna Ortega is a compelling actor but her character and her arc felt so abrupt and forced, I still don’t know a lot of her motivations and the film still answers that poorly. Barry Keoghan’s character doesn’t fit the movie.

The film biggest issue is that it follows that Sam Levinson method where there is more hyper moments than telling a compelling story and I really do wanted to have a compelling experience with this but unfortunately the film forced upon telling a great album of The Weeknd and is told in cheesy and absurd ways.

Hurry Up Tomorrow (2025) is easily one of the years worst films but I can see The hardcore Weeknd fans enjoying this more than the normal movie goers. This film fails to capture the high notes of the album and its due by its messiest screenplay and storytelling. Hopefully Trey and The Weeknd continue making great content in the future but I consider this film as a visually bold mess of a movie.

Cannes Film Festival Presents:
Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning
Directed By:
Christopher McQuarrie

I need you to trust me one last time

Now that the review embargo is out I can finally say I saw this film some weeks ago so finally it’s time to talk about the movie that will define the summer blockbuster season, Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning.

After surviving the train disaster, Ethan Hunt and the IMF Team finally have the key to unlocking the truth about the Entity. They don’t have enough time and must find the location of where the entity is very quickly before Gabriel finds there tracks. If Ethan and his IMF team failed the mission, the world is at major risk.

The Mission Impossible franchise has however been one of the best franchises of all time and not counting the flaws of Mission Impossible 2, the franchise itself has proves to be better in every installment which showcases in each one and the capabilities of Tom Cruise becoming the last superstar. Known as The last Mission Impossible film in near 30 year old franchise , can The Final Reckoning live up with the rest and ties a bow to its legacy?

I’m so happy to say that The Final Reckoning continues the trend that the Mission Impossible has done so far and that it never fails on its audience or loses hope within the franchis by its impeccable stunts.

Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt is arguably one of the best castings in a major blockbuster of all time, the way how he continues to have the reputation as the last Movie Star in Hollywood is showcased in this movie. Tom Cruise is a complete daredevil in this movie with how much stunts he delivered on the second half of this movie as well with the current recent installments. Your jaw will be on the floor on how shocking the stunts are in this movie and Tom Cruise is easily the only person who can do the stuff he do in this movie and that’s how you improve its audience on another level.

Hailey Atwell as Grace proves to be one of the best additions of the franchise, Simon Pegg as Benji gives one of the stronger performances of the franchise and Ving Rhames as Luther is one of my favorite parts of this franchise. Old additions of the cast includes the return of Angela Bassett as Erika, Rolf Saxon as William Donloe, and New additions to the cast includes Nick Offerman, Tramell Tillman, and Hannah Waddingham gives good and solid performances of the franchise.

Final Reckoning follows the trend between De Palmas first Mission Impossible and both Fallout and Dead Reckoning in which you have to pay attention to every close detail of every dialogue of the plot because it plays an important part of this movie and the first act requires tight focus or else you will not no a lot plot wise.

However, the films first act is very tame and bloated and came out a bit messy comparing the air tight pacing of the previous great installments. The whole exposition dump from the first 45 minutes felt disted and all over the place, however when it does hit it’s right landing it soars into one of the greatest moments of this year at the movies. This film from the very start is all about Ethan’s journey into making his most dangerous mission yet and less time with the ing characters, it may be a bad critique for some but some may view that this is Ethan’s main mission that is solely based on his own actions he had created in the past 30 years as both a criminal and an agent of the IMF.

There is a major action sequence that is probably one of the most difficult to film in an action movie of all time and I just got to say it, with each movie each stunt becomes more risky and riskier as it goes along. Here the action sequences are a lot more harder to film and there will be one sequence that could be an all timer in the franchise history and soon to be a memorable one that I cannot wait for people to talk about it.

Even with its flaws, Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning is easily without a doubt one of the most entertaining films of the entire franchise that is both ambitious and has a tone of a 90s action thriller. It’s a good way to end a very beloved franchise that ended the 20+ year story arc with a bang. Each action sequence is very long and there is 2 action sequences that I won’t spoil, is without a doubt one of the most claustrophobic, thrilling with suspense, and best action sequences of the entire franchise. I gotta applause deeply to Tom Cruise for making this franchise worth while with his unforgettable commitment to motivate an audience from his dangerous stunts. Both McQuarrie and Cruise concluded this franchise strong and still holds the title as still one of the best blockbuster franchises of all time.

Thanks Paramount Pictures for the invite! Make sure to see this major action blockbuster when it hits theaters on May 23rd!

Tom Cruise is saving cinema and he has done it again folks ⭐️

In this Disney classic, follows Lilo and her sister Nani as they are having financial problems, until one day an alien named Stitch came down in the state of Hawaii. Lilo became best friends with Stitch and all three help each other towards hard times.

Chris Sanders is without a doubt one of the best animated filmmakers of all time and it’s crazy that both of his influential and classic pieces are both getting a live action remake on both this film and How to Train Your Dragon.

What more has said about this movie that hasn’t already been done. This film is pure delight and Disney at their highest.

Daveighn Chase plays Lilo and she’s just adorable in this film, Tia Carrere plays Nani who is the core focus human character and Chris Sanders did the iconic voice of Stitch who is both memorable and unforgettable.

What I love about this movie is the pure heart on display and how much it captures the adolescence of being a child and a young adult but keep close and friendly with a childhood heart.

Lilo and Stitch (2002) is a fun Disney classic that they don’t make as much anymore. The way how Sanders did the hard work on the animation as well as directing his voice actors and scenes really showcase a mastery of his craft and one of his notable timeless classic.

The 4th installment of the franchise follows once again a group of young folks as they survived a very bad accident from a race car event. They must escape death before it’s once again too late.

This is the worst of the franchise easily. First of all why is this not called Final Destination 4 and instead The Final Destination, I don’t understand the logic of the title of this film unless if it was a complete reboot but the next installment is called Final Destination 5. Easily one of the most confusing and one of the worst title of modern horror.

Now let’s talk about the quality of the film, yeah it’s a mixed bag for me. There was some creative kills in this especially the one in the mall that is easily the best part. The problem with this film is how goofy and unrealistic it is comparing to the 3 previous installments. Here has unnecessary cgi, not a lot of interesting characters, and a story not that great unfortunately.

The Final Destination (2009) is the first big letdown of the franchise but it does have a bit of enjoyable bits to be had but the real unrealistic tone made this a hyper boiling mess.

The 3rd installment of this franchise follows Mary Elizabeth Winstead character witnessing a life changing event that made her get out of the rollercoaster ride at the amusement park. She must uncover the clues from the photos for her to escape the death curse.

This is my second favorite of the franchise after the first film and it’s mostly due to Mary Elizabeth Winstead character Wendy who is my second favorite protagonist of the franchise and she has more to do with this film.

This is easily the most enjoyable in the franchise and the most fast paced since the first. The second film is my least favorite so far and the first has a bit of problems. I’ll say out of the first 3 this is the one that remains the most solid one of the franchise so far.

Final Destination 3 (2006) is easily one of the better installments of the franchise and the best of the execution so far with one of the most creative scares. The final 15 minutes of the subway remains of the best sequences of the franchise. Overall one of the better installments!

A 1960s London biker boy is wondering to the streets during the golden eras of The British Invasion. He then fell in love with a woman and a biker cult gang named the Mods that causes chaos through the dark and dirty streets. He may like that life but it could affect his family life.

Based on the rock opera album of one of The Who who is a British band people may have heard from their hits like My Generation, The Kids are Alright, Pictures of Lily and so much more.

I’m surprised not a lot of people talk about this film a lot because it’s actually pretty solid with a very important message of growing up independently in the 1960s. A time where the baby boomer generation was growing up. This was before cell phones and people used to been through some real sh*t back then in both the US and London.

I listen to a lot of The Who tracks and they are probably one of the most patriotic British bands of all time that their music was seen over a lot of American culture like in CSI Miami or the recent Top Gun Maverick where they use the song Won’t Get Fooled Again from their 1971 Album Who’s Next.

Quadrophenia (1979) is one out of many The Who musicals and documentaries in their filmography. A film that explores themes of growing up and moving on with the change. Definitely one of the most underrated coming to age musicals of the 1970s.

Based on a true story about Joe Scaravella suffering from grief after losing his mom. He then came up with the idea to open an Italian restaurant in NYC with help from grandmas known as Nonnas to make the Italian cuisine into a household name.

Directed By Stephen Chbosky who just get out from director jail after his mediocre Dear Evan Hansen film from a couple years ago. This is definitely his most different film to date since he’s known for making book adaptations about the modern youth like Perks of being a Wallflower and Wonder.

He is a filmmaker whose films relate to the younger youth and receive a modern following. Knowing how divisive Dear Evan Hansen is, it’s time for him to spice up his resume with a movie that appeal to the older crowd and stars a lot of stars from Italian American classics. So does this film work overall?

This film is a solid film that brought back the old school Italian films from back in the day. This film stars Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Brenda Vaccaro, and Talia Shire who stars real life people in this real story.

What I like about this film is heartwarming it is and how happy it is, this is definitely something Netflix should do often than doing mediocre films because this was actually decent in its own right.

Nonnas (2025) is a movie that will make you crave for some good Italian food. It’s nowhere near one of the best Netflix films but if you are looking for a movie that is very laid back and down to earth this is a film for you.

Oh Idiocracy!

What hasn’t been said then what it’s said already. A film that caused a pop culture moment with a whole lotta discourse around it.

People may even think in the year of our lord 2025, we are witnessing the events of idiocracy as we speak and it’s beyond scary that a lot of the depictions of this film is what we are unfolding now. Political shakeup of the world, future technology, and of course living in a world different now then it was centuries ago.

In this film we follow Joe Bauers who is sent to a future dystopian society to save mankind only for the plot to avoid it in its entirety.

This is a film that caused or will already cause a lot of division in many ways. Maybe this is how us as humans live, in a world of division amongst ourselves. The film tackles the modern day climate in very comedic ways. But is this really a comedy or are we living in a comedy, only time will eventually tell.

Idiocracy (2006) is a film that released nearly 20 years ago and man these writers must of been taking notes from The Simpsons writers because this film could be the most accurate film to ever portray modern America and civilization. I do think the film is way deep into the propaganda but overall it’s an ok film that may be annoying to some and some may find it as a big historical discourse. I was entertained but didn’t love it as I wanted it to. Overall it plays its Idiocracy very seriously!

Set in the Gold Coast of Australia, follows a man who wants to achieve his goal and go back to his childhood home which he will buy for his family and surf there. However a cult stops his well wishes with a battle for survival and fate.

I’ve been very excited for this movie because not only I love Nicholas cage as an actor but I love the dreamy and realistic tone from the marketing. It has been a while I’ve seen a movie that looks amazing visually so I was excited to see it and today was the day to check out The Surfer.

This film reminds me of one of my favorite movies of all time which is Frank Perry’s 1968 Classic The Swimmer which stars Burt Lancaster who is trying to battle the ocean from hard defying truth that both Cage and Lancaster character is obsessed with the ocean and less focus on the world surrounding it.

The film is executed like a late 60s to early 70s films with a psychedelic cult feel that feels it came out in the hippie era but more modernized it.

Cage is becoming one of those rare few actors who have done every genre and every movie combined. Here he’s more suddle but with a minority of cage craziness put in his films.

The Surfer (2024) is a fine movie that not everything works but it’s a weird film that explores the spirituality of oneself and obsession to your desires.

One of the few movies I’ve discovered here on Letterboxd and I saw it on YouTube so here is my thoughts:

I really had a bonkers time seeing clowns doing stupid acts that made me giggle once in a while. It also combines both slap stick comedy with a mockumentary style drama of the actors who plays the clowns.

Definitely not Fellini’s strongest efforts but release The Clowns (1970) means release the chaos and it sure did in over the top and crazy ways. Definitely the most loose and silliest out of Fellini’s filmography.

Happy May the 4th to my Fellow Droogies!

Today’s special film is a movie that released 26 years ago this year and that is Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace!

The year is 1999 and everyone was going nuts because a new Star Wars Trilogy by George Lucas is about to release into cinemas and the whole hype surrounding it has been nothing we’ve seen before.

Star Wars was back in full swing with merchandise people used to collect for both The OG trilogy and The Phantom Menace is selling in Toys R US shelves. Commercials for the new toys, partnerships with other companies to promote their content and of course trailers and behind the scenes content that would make people hype on possibly the next big event in pop culture. I however wasn’t even born in 1999 to witness this big time for Star Wars fans but managed to collect the rare Yoda puppet item for cheap on retail.

When it is time for the midnight release of May 19 1999, people was lining up for hours to hopefully get a seat for their local theater with full Star Wars cosplay. It was a true definition of a true blockbuster epic but there was one question a lot of people hopefully to answer, is it any good?

When it was released, Critics thinks it’s a big disappointment comparing to the Original Star Wars Trilogy but overall fans were mixed but it did got a bit of love by some Star Wars fans. I am however a big defender of The Phantom Menace since it was one of the first thing that got me into Star Wars.

So since it have been a while, Does The Phantom Menace live up the hype? Let me get into my negatives first and I do feel it’s pointing on the involvement of Jar Jar Binks, a character who was once the most hated character but now became a meme in the Star Wars Community. I do think without Jar Jar in this film the film would’ve worked a bit better. George Lucas created Jar Jar to entertain the young generation but everything doesn’t go as it hoped with later installments Jar Jar became more a cameo character.

A lot of people criticized Jake Lloyd’s portrayal of Anakin as not a great portrayal of the character but at the same time, he’s just a kid and normally kid acting I don’t usually criticize but he actually tried his best and it’s far from a bad performance. I do think some story decisions felt it dragged a bit longer than usual but seeing this on a rewatch, it actually aged a bit better and less flaws with this one comparing to the messy sequel trilogy that literally has no plan to begin with.

I do think Qui Gon Jinn played by Liam Neeson was actually solid as well with Ewan Mcgregor young portrayal as Obi Wan remains the best thing of this trilogy. Natalie Portman and Ian McDiarmid is actually great additions to the cast as well.

26 years on, does The Phantom Menace(1999) live up to the hype? Yes, is it somewhat flawed, Yes, and is it still very entertaining, Yes. George Lucas creating the first chapter of The Star Wars Saga was not gonna be as great as A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, or even Return of The Jedi but George Lucas plan on making his own second trilogy starts here and even though it’s no where near top 5 best Star Wars Material, it’s a film that got better through time and even with its suddle flaws, there is some memorable moments in here especially the great sequence of The Duel of Fates that remains one of the best sequences all of Star Wars and John Williams entire career, there has been a great disturbance of the force and The Phantom Menace remains solid Star Wars years later.

May The Force Be With You!

Another Simple Favor is the sequel of A Simple Favor and follows once again Stephanie as she reunites with Emily from her release in jail. She invites Stephanie to her wedding in the country side of italy where Stephanie once again sees suspicious activities that could put her life at risk.

I do think the first A Simple Favor was a decent thriller that has a lot of strong highlighted moments full of twists and turns. I do think this film is unnecessary to have a sequel from a film 7 years ago but there has been sequels that sures expectations. Can Another Simple Favor be enough for more?

Unfortunately guys, I was very disappointed with this sequel but has some decent scenes throughout.

The first hour I would say had some nice buildups and Carried a lot of the charm of the first but as the mystery continues to get more intense, the resolution was very much underwhelming in my part.

My biggest issue is that the film went downhill in quality as the acts continued and it’s due to how convoluted this film is. What made the first was solid is how simple and interesting it is. Here there is so many characters, and I felt the story didn’t reach as much of the heights as the first film.

Another Simple Favor (2025) is a mixed letdown for me story wise that gets messy during the second half of the film. The first act as well as the entertaining parts all throughout made my grade a 2.5/5

To celebrate the sequel which came out in Amazon Prime, it’s time to review the original from 2018 and it follows a female blogger as she encounters a new best friend and connected well with her and her family. Only for her best friend to disappear and causes the whole town to interfere in the case.

Paul Feig filmography has a bit of a rollercoaster ride, he made the cult classic tv series Freaks and Geeks, The funny film Bridesmaids and the movie that caused all of controversy in the female Ghostbusters reboot.

Coming off from The Ghostbusters reboot, comes his next big project with Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, does this film do it justice?

This had a somewhat interesting plot with a lot twists and turns that picked up the second half.

Anna Kendrick gave one of her career solid performance as Stephanie who tries to solve the case of the disappearance of Emily played by Blake Lively who gave one of her best performances.

A Simple Favor (2018) is a wild movie, felt inspired by Fincher’s Gone Girl but this film felt more lighter than that film. Not the type of film I normally see but I was surprisingly hooked with the plot and characters.

Set during the historical and political period in 1972, two baby boomers named Betsy played by Kristen Dunst and Arlene played by Michelle Williams is being ed with close connections with the 37th President Richard Nixon, shortly known as Dick. This movie folds the events that happened during the Watergate crisis and the change of American society moving forward with these girls.

An underrated film from one of the best years of cinema, 1999 was no exception on releasing underrated hidden gems that is overshadowed by so many great films at that time. Man this movie is one of the best enjoyments for an old movie in a minute.

What this film does different comparing to a movie set in a forever change in America is how much flavor and rewatchability this has with any political films both old and new.

A lot of political films takes itself so seriously that at a point an audience member can come out bored by it especially how stiff the world actually became.

This film even though it sets in the 70s, it has that chick flick energy from the mid to late 90s which was one of the best writings for female characters of that period of time.

This film offers a lot of commentary but never took itself too seriously or too indulgent to its message about politics and the forever change of America. Both Dunst and Williams create such a great duo that they are indeed promising leads and people in the 90s relate to their characters as well with their dynamics and arcs that follows.

Dick (1999) is easily one of the most entertaining watches of the 90s that not a lot of people heard and remains criminally underrated. It’s funny, has charm, and most of all it’s a rare effect that a political film can be never boring and cheers me up on pure delight.

Marvel Studios Thunderbolts* has hit theaters so let’s talk about this new MCU movie.

The OG Avengers went MIA for the longest time and the city needs a new group of superheroes to save the city. Comes the Thunderbolts* which is a tag team gone rogue and the team includes Yelena, Red Guardian, Bucky, U.S. Agent, Ava Starr and Taskmaster and they must stop the one powerful villain Sentry aka The Void.

I do think the recent MCU are hit and miss and I am not the huge fan I once was but I was excited for Thunderbolts* because of the cast, the marketing, and its filmmakers behind it. So is this film actually one of the best MCU films in the last few years?

Yes, I did have a blast with this movie, is it great as Endgame, I would say it as a stretch but is it one of the best MCU films post Endgame, I absolutely agree.

Florence Pugh is easily one of my favorite actresses working today and one of my favorites period. Her performance as Yelena grows in the more projects I see her in. She carried a lot of emotions and her arc is very touching. David Harbour as Red Guardian is very funny and his character got fleshed out a lot better than his first appearance in Black Widow. Bucky and U.S. Agent remains well additions to the cast.

Now let me give my minor issues with the film and that I feel Ava Starrs character doesn’t have as much character development as the others and thought the story was not as tight as it wants it to be and it’s fine.

Thunderbolts* (2025) is easily one of the better MCU films post Endgame. It’s very entertaining and most of all we care more of the characters first and that’s the biggest takeaway of the film.

Set in the west coast in the 1950s, follows Julius, his brother Henry and wife Muriel who are one big family, until gambling, cheating, and coming into one own comes to play.

The biggest standout in this movie is Daisy Edgar Jones. She’s been creeping in as one of best up and coming stars in our generation and is a good lead in this film. Jacob Elordi is solid and Will Poulter gave a good performance.

However I do think the storytelling in this film is a bit underwhelming and plain. Some of the storylines of the film feels abrupted all throughout and some scenes doesn’t reach the spark in it’s execution.

Even though it has some major issues, On Swift Horses (2025) is a decent film with performances that stands out including Diego Calva who is becoming one of my favorite new stars in Babylon and Sasha Calle in a semi minor role. Daisy Edgar Jones storyline remains the most affective and her performance and story is the best part of this movie.

What I like about this film from 1981 is how much character development as well with personalities of their own. As each season changes, you see the change of climate of these characters and their life problems.

It’s basically a hangout film that explores how individuals adapt the season. Summer is full of happiness, fall is full of grief, and winter is full of anger, each season has a theme that Alda nails very well with the set up of characters throughout directing and writing.

The Four Seasons (1981) is a solid film that is a character based focus front and center that is full of happiness, sadness, anger, and grief all wrapped into one film.

A movie that is now trending on Netflix which is Gareth Evans new film Havoc which is about a group of cops trying to go to war with the foreign mob.

Evans is known for The Raid films which is considered one of the best modern action films with some of the most iconic action in modern film.

This film was in deep development hell for 4 years since it first started production in 2021 with no release in site for 3 years. I when this first began and the massive amount of reshoots it has gotten and now in the year of our lord in 2025, it’s finally released and let’s talk about it.

The best thing I would say about this film is Evans amazing use of stunt fight sequences put in his films. The film is bloody, gory, and raw but also very crisp editing and camera movements that always remains entertaining.

The main problem about this film is the tone. When there is action is over the top but when there are suddle scenes, it’s a different film entirely and I feel there is a lot of tonal shift between the action and the suddle scenes that makes it quite messy unfortunately.

Even though the film has some major issues, Havoc (2025) is one of the most decent films Netflix had to offer. Really wished this got a theatrical window because there is some scenes worthy to see in the cinema but it remains entertaining engaging and finally not a bad Netflix movie minus its problems.

Ingrid a New York novelist is meeting an old friend named Martha who is suffering with Stage 3 Cancer and don’t know how many days she have left for her to live. Ingrid then moves to her mansion where she invites Martha to stay with her as long as she needed to.

Directed by Spanish auteur filmmaker Pedro Almodovar in what happens to be his first fully English production after the nearly 50 years career making short films and foreign theatrical films.

What I really like about this movie is the exploration of both Ingrid and Martha’s friendship in which most of the runtime we spend time with them and explore their backstories and conversations about life.

Julianne Moore gives one of her best modern career performances but Tilda Swinton is the best performer of this film. The way how suddle she is about the afterlife but also the tragic backstory of her life makes the dramatic weight very much front and center.

My main issue with the film is that this is probably nowhere near the best of Almodovar foreign movies and doesn’t have the Almodovar magic not all the time but his female driven characters remains the main magic this movie delivers very solidly well.

The Room Next Door (2024) is a very well directed Drama that both Moore and Swinton performances carried on very well. Some very few issues but Almodovar’s female driven characters remains development continues what makes his characters great and it’s how much layers and how important females are in this world and remain one of the few filmmakers who nailed the importance of female existence very well.

It has been  8 years since The ant got widely received praise that soon became a cult classic and aged a lot better in rewatchablity.

8 years later Chris is living his best life after his work in the ant and is hesitant to find a girlfriend. A mission came to his attention so he his brother who he haven’t met in a while and soon goes on a spree to save kids from the European mob.

The first ant I thought was solid and very engaging. Gavin O’Connor is a filmmaker whose films gets a following like the criminally underrated film Warrior and the rest of his filmography was surprisingly good. Idk what to expect to the sequel to the ant but now I managed to see it so here is my thoughts.

This film is a solid follow up as the first. It definitely feels not on the same level as the first but remains enjoyable and O’Connor direction to the sequel feels different since this is more a comedy in which the first film was a bit darker.

Ben Affleck once again gave a good performance as Christian an ant who has autism. His comedic delivery is nowhere near offensive to the autism spectrum but adds a bit of charm he hasn’t had in the first.

John Bernthal is one of those ing actors who has been in everything and has a very memorable resume. He’s gives another solid performance that fits his comedic timing well.

The ant 2 (2025) is a solid film that I wish the narrative was a bit better that I feel the storytelling is a bit convoluted comparing to first but the really main focus of this film is the characters and their personalities and both Affleck and Bernthal screentime is dynamic and worth the ticket alone.

Had its world premiere at The Cannes Film Festival back in 1971 that kickstarted the career of Al Pacino before Godfather fame, follows a New York couple played by both Al Pacino and Kitty Winn as they are living in a city of the drug epidemic. Helen is suffering from a drug meltdown that could change the relationship with Bobby in the center of an area called Needle Park.

This was the movie i think convinced Coppola to cast Pacino as the mafia boss Michael Corleone in The Godfather trilogy. 70s Pacino hits a lot different from modern day Pacino since him in the 70s had a lot of tuff skin personality and goes into a lot of rants. He’s for a reason why he was one of the best and iconic stars of the 70s.

Kitty Winn as Helen gave a great performance and definitely one of the lead focuses of the film. Her relationship with Bobby is sometimes hard to watch by how violent the nature of the relationship gets as the film continues forward.

My dad told me that growing up in Queens New York especially in Manhattan was not the New York attraction we see today. It was a lot of drugs, violence, and sex workers going on in the city and comparing to now, it’s a huge difference but doesn’t necessarily means it changed for the medium. This film goes back to a time where the drug explosion was everywhere and could affects a persons well being from the worse of attitudes.

The Panic at Needle Park (1971) is a nightmarish look on how drugs can affect a relationship in an extreme level and could affect it deeply. Both Pacino and Winn delivers great cast ensemble performances that makes it more raw in conversations but realistic in reality.

From the filmmaker who later do The Michael Jackson Thriller video and American Werewolf in London comes a group of comedy skits that influenced the sex films of the 70s and Bruce Lee’s Enter The Dragon.

Eh this was fine, some very hilarious shorts but the pacing of the shorts can be all over the place but never once it was embarrassingly not funny.

The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977) is a spoof film taken place before spoof genre was famous and before Airplane became famous. It was funny and yet feels like a movie of the 70s that won’t age in todays standards.

20th Century Fox Presents:
Star Wars Episode III Revenge of The Sith
(20th Anniversary Rerelease)
Directed By George Lucas

A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far Far Away, George Lucas made the prequel trilogy after the monumental success of the original trilogy. The prequel trilogy concludes the story of Anakin Skywalker by turning into the dark side and became Darth Vader.

This managed to get an honorary rerelease to celebrate 20 years since Revenge of The Sith has released and finished the saga of George Lucas 30 year + long vision creating Sci Fi Epics and culminates the Star Wars saga to an end.

When this first released everyone was skeptical and scared after the reception of The Phantom Menace and Attack of The Clones which gained underwhelming reactions at the time. The hype was real and 2005 Star Wars Mania has returned in its full glory and back when cinemas had Midnight premieres which fans wait in line for hours to see this gigantic and most anticipated film.

Revenge of The Sith is still considered the best out of the three prequel films and has very good critics and audience reception. But ever since Disney bought Star Wars with George Lucas selling it with a huge ransom. With Disney making one of the most lackluster and disappointing sequel trilogy that made fans very upset of how Disney handled Star Wars. The prequel trilogy eventually got the major treatment it deserved. Is Revenge of The Sith still holds up 20 years later?

George Lucas is considered one of the greatest storytellers of all time with his resume is full of great movies like 50s nostalgic coming to age film American Graffiti, to making one of the most underrated films of the 1970s, THX 1138, made one of the best action adventure film franchises in Indiana Jones and eventually changed the landscape of blockbuster filmmaking forever in Star Wars.

Star Wars Episode III absolutely aged a lot better today than it ever been. I will always defend The Phantom Menace and thought even though Attack of The Clones is flawed it’s still very entertaining and a lot of lore.

The greatest performances out of this film is Ewan Mcgregor as Obi Wan Kenobi and Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine. George Lucas choice on casting Mcgregor as one of the most iconic characters of the franchise in Obi Wan Kenobi remains the highlights of this film. McDiarmid is absolutely perfect casting as Palpatine who grows to be one of the biggest villains in Star Wars whose character was totally ruined in Rise of Skywalker. Say as you will but Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker performance aged a bit better and shows a lot better job in Ashoka.

They don’t make movies like this anymore unfortunately, Now a lot of the blockbusters isn’t as fleshed out with characters or story as it used to be and George Lucas is no doubt one of the last storytellers who ever graced the blockbuster genre. The way he spent years drafting both the Original and Prequel Trilogy is quite astonishing because no studio now a days don’t have the guts to give their filmmakers and writers the extra chance on creating their vision come to life. Star Wars Episode III is no exception as easily one of George Lucas greatest strengths as a storyteller and he culminated the franchise in the vision he always wanted and he tried to make his vision come to for wishing and he accomplished it right as it needed to be.

Revenge of The Sith (2005) 20 years on continued to age a lot better as it did in 2005. Yeah I do think the dialogue doesn’t hit 100% the marks as it needed to be but the scope, the action sequences, the iconic lines, the dramatic weight, and the growing character development really balances a lot better than it did before. A lot of people think the magic of Star Wars still continues but the diehard fans think it all ended in Revenge of The Sith. Even if Star Wars still continues for the next 20 years, George Lucas 6 films saga is blockbuster epic at its peak and fans will still honor George Lucas legacy through his work from the rest of eternity in a Galaxy Far Far Away.

Richard Linklater’s directorial debut follows a group of citizens spending a day in Texas.

Richard Linklater for me is one of the best a bit underrated auteurs comparing to the 90s new wave filmmakers coming out with acclaimed films of the 90s.

Known for his conversational  dialogue with counterculture themes. He’s a filmmaker with alot of variety and sometimes gives off a bit of down to earth nature with his films.

In this film there is no main character since characters are split up into anthologies but each of them have their own seperate arcs in this 1.5 hour film.

Even though not one of Linklater’s sharp narrative films, Slacker is one of the most realistic at the time films. A hangout film at best but stays true with its characters conversations that Linklater nails later in his filmography. Definitely a film about the people that really makes the dialogue its main characters and the characters in ing.

Hey my fellow droogs 👋,

I’ve just got back from the AMC Sneak Peek Showcase of what they showed at Cinemacon so here is my thoughts.

The Sneak Peek Showcase is stuff that was seen over the Cinemacon presentations from Warner Bros, Paramount, Universal, Amazon MGM, Walt Disney Studios, and Lionsgate. So when I realize it’s happening I was excited because they may show new stuff and besides it was $3 so I need to check it out and man I’m very very disappointed.

Let me give out the positives and they did show bits and pieces of new stuff like behind the scenes depth look on Ballerina and How to Train Your Dragon. But the biggest highlight is the Walt Disney Studios presentation which showed a 5 minute sequence from Elio as well as a trailer that has the song Don’t Stop Me Now from Queen which was the best thing of this studio presentation.

Now let’s talk about my issues with this event and I feel it’s barely not a lot of interesting stuff. I was expecting at least a trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s After The Hunt or even the most hyped up event of the second half of 2025 and is the most anticipated Wicked For Good which could be a great addition to this 1 hour event.

This event was very much clickbait because about 75% of the entire event is trailers that all were released online and I thought I was gonna get a bit more on stuff but instead the only stuff was new was an intermission of a Coca Cola ad that even though it was necessary to filmmakers in which I agree, I couldn’t keep my satisfaction with this. If they indeed show at least 1 or 2 trailers that was shown only in Cinemacon it would be great but with the age of social media and leaking stuff online, theaters are afraid of what they are showing because if this was an event that taking place 10 years ago, it would be a bit meaningful but it’s a complete waste.

This Cinemacon sneak preview show for an hour I would say is very disappointing. It would be a lot better if they released a Wicked for Good trailer since it’s the right event to show it but unfortunately they showed trailers that are seen to the public and if you are going to the Thursday showing, I recommend seeing Revenge of The Sith or even The ant 2 instead.

From the brilliant minds that brought a lot of Divine Classics in the big screen and Hairspray follows a group of high schoolers that must break out Johnny Depp’s Wade Walker out of prison where he awaits the love of his life waiting for him.

The world is missing a new John Waters film classic which one was supposed to star Aubrey Plaza which would’ve been perfect but was cancelled there on. It’s always the case where whenever John Waters released a new film, it would be a midnight cult classic and it could be the same with Cry-Baby which released in 1990.

The film mixes the 1950s rock and roll era with a Water’s trademark in it with raunchy, horny, or completely insane characters who always gets in trouble.

Johnny Depp plays Wade Walker who is a grease teen who definitely fits the grease type. Allison played by Amy Locane falls in love with him and is meant for him from one doctors visit. It’s very poetic on the first time they meet when the last time they meet where Waters nails in execution.

Cry-Baby (1990) is a Doo Wop cult classic by the king of Cult Cinema John Waters who gives his own take on the batsh*t of characters in very hilarious scenarios that is over the top in full 50s delight

Jude a British immigrant traveled to the states to find his dad. He then met Max and Lucy who they became best friends. Jude and Lucy then fall in love each other during the time of the Vietnam war of the 1960s. The movie is told by full of musical numbers and references to the Beatles discography through the rest of the movie.

It comes by no surprise that 4 heartrobs by Liverpool influenced music forever and they are John, Paul, George, and Ringo and formed a band called The Beatles. About all of their discography is covered by memorable hits that made its way in pop culture.

Even though this is adapted by The Beatles work, it’s basically an original story that is set in the 1960s. I do think one of my biggest flaws of this film is that I don’t feel that this movie is set in the 60s and more of the 2000s.

The three main characters actors is Jim Sturgess, Evan Rachel Wood, and Joe Anderson with cameos that include Bono and Salma Hayek in the cast.

Yeah I do feel the film breaks a bit of the genre bending in more explosive and lose tone that gets riskier as the movie goes on but the musical sequences and its trippy cinematography really captures a lot of the psychedelia of the Beatles in fact even though the songs are out of order of its original release, it’s inspired by the real life events of The order of The Beatles events.

Yeah it’s sometimes flawed but Across The Universe (2007) is extremely fun from start to finish that lets the viewer have a bombastic ride from start to finish. The film has an original story as well in a Beatles theme storyline that fans may dig the tribute that aged a bit well 18 years since this movie released.

Happy Easter to all my lovely followers!

The Lord has Risen! 🙏

Today’s Easter Review I will review the 1965 Biblical Epic The Greatest Story Ever Told which is about the life of Jesus Christ and his journey for sacrificing our sins.

I do think when it comes to biblical theatrical epics that came out, there is only few of them that are considered timeless classics and they are The Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, and Dreamworks Animated Movie The Prince of Egypt. We rarely get biblical epics as we used to and it’s hard to hold the title as a timeless classic. So does this movie considered an earning title as of those.

I would say out of all the biblical epics that came out of the 50s-60s, this remains one of the weakest ones but definitely one of the most decent ones from that time.

Max Von Sydow captured a lot of Jesus wise and forgiving nature and remains one of the biggest highlights of this film. I do think the score is beautiful and very grand that carried a lot of the momentum of this historical movie.

Now for my issues with this film and I feel with it being above 3+ hours of runtime, it definitely dragged the pacing of the film comparing to the fast paced natured of The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur which both of them always kept feeling entertaining from start to finish. I do feel this movie doesn’t need to be above 3 hours since I feel the pacing was a lot more slower that doesn’t have strong pace to the storytelling.

I do wished we have a bit more time with the apostles because they are major keystone of the life of Jesus and wanted a bit more chemistry with Peter and his disciples.

The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) is a biblical epic that struggles to keep a strong momentum comparing to other films adapted in the Bible. I do wish the film was stronger thematically and pacing wise but overall Max Von Sydow’s performance remains one of the most underrated Jesus performances but remains the biggest highlight of this film.

Featured in the Cleo from 5 to 7 as a segment, follows 2 fiancés and their strange encounter at the Macdonald Bridge.

Stars Anna Karina and French New Wave filmmaker Jean Luc Goddard that is directed by Agnes Varda and music from Michael Legrand, this was a dream come true since I love French New Wave Cinema and saw Cleo to 7 last year and I really liked it.

I thought this was fine and very bleak with story but I was shocked this was a short film from the 1960s because it feels like it could come out in the 1910s-1920s in which Varda really captured in a goofy and romantic approach with Legrand masterful technique on creating the scores of the time which is neat.

The Fiancés of Macdonald Bridge (1961) is one of the weaker Varda projects but definitely not bad. Definitely a short I recommend especially as a film student, this can be useful for creating your craft and definitely can be a sole inspiration on creating craft comes to life.

A coming to age movie set in 1971 is about graduated boys and their family going on a road trip to find their own destiny of life moving forward.

One of the first roles of Kevin Costner and teen star Judd Nelson stars in this film filled with 60s-70s references relevant to the time. Here is my thoughts of this film.

This film has pretty solid performances with great chemistry. The film is very entertaining and Some scenes were very hard to film in 1985 but man those aviation scenes looks so cool.

I do think the story to be ok but never reach the same richness as the characters but remains enjoyable.

Fandango (1985) is a decent coming to age film that got better in the second half led by a very charismatic performance by Kevin Costner and just respects the accuracy of 1971 that was right around the Nixon era and explores a lot of the Americana American Dream that was popular at the time and life moving forward.

Two Twins and their cousin has arrived to town for a big party for a night to .

I’ve been hearing a lot of this movie since it had its world premiere earlier this month and what I originally thought from the trailers is that even though it shows a lot of stuff from the movie, so when I heard of earlier reactions is the word masterpiece thrown around and it got me very hyped. I saw it tonight and here is my thoughts on Sinners.

Ryan Coogler man, that man knows how to direct one hell of a movie. I didn’t know he had a lot in him since he previously did The Creed and  Black Panther films. This is definitely the first true banger of the year.

We’ve gotten duo roles early on in the year from Warner Bros and even though Robert Pattinson did a very good performances, Robert De Niro performances in Alto Knights just didn’t work.

Michael B Jordan gave one of his best and finest performances yet as Stack and his twin and finally a role that gives his performance to grow. Miles Caton as Sammy gave one of the best up and coming performances in the year as well and he’s so good to give enough credit and of course Hailee Steinfeld knows how to pick her roles carefully. Other great additions is Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku who has some moments to shine.

I saw this in IMAX tonight with a full crowd and man when I heard it was shot in IMAX cameras I was very excited and very happy of how Ryan Coogler directs his scenes and the scope of the cinematography is outstanding and Ludwig’s Musical scores and its sequences remains electric and great pace of music that is just so good.

Sinners is Ryan Coogler’s Magnum Opus and his best film yet. The way how impactful its story and characters are and the atmospheric scope of the worldbuilding makes this one of the best films of the year.
