Denis Villeneuve has done it yet again!
Of course, I won’t go into this movie too much, but see it in the biggest theater you can find (especially in IMAX). This is right up there as one of the best movie sequels of all time!
Where Part One was introduction to the world of Arrakis, Part Two is where everything is pieced together like an early Christmas present. It’s one of those movie sequels that relies on strong storytelling, character development and themes. The pacing might be a little slow at the start, but I can forgive that because every scene and character serves a purpose.
I also found the film to be engaging not only for how it tells a good story, but the political and religious commentary is so refreshing to see in this day and age. The consequences of being a messiah is there, but one thing remains clear during the story; mankind needs a savior. One that will bring an end to evil wars and gives peace in return to all mankind. It’s a rarity to see religious symbolism in a modern film done so well and naturally.
“(20) It will be a sign and a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt. When they cry to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and deliver them.“
- Isaiah 19:20
If there’s one more thing that coninues to impress me about Villeneuve’s work, he creates some of the best looking movies today. Greig Fraser’s cinematography is so amazing that he could rival Roger Deakins. The visuals, score, sound, and actual good cgi are were so incredibly well-done and immersive.
Dune Part Two is a fantastic piece of filmmaking. It’s a bigger, action-packed and engaging movie with a lot of effort and talent put into it. I can’t wait to see what Villeneuve does with Dune Messiah because there’s so much potential in this series than ever. You all have fun once the movie comes out this week, it’s so worth the wait.
