Scattered and thorough thoughts on second viewing.
• IMAX 70mm looks great unsurprisingly, although a little more gimmicky than Tenet or Oppenheimer. Sound shook to my core. Certain lines I could feel each word individually. A great theatre! And no fucking ads beforehand!!
• First 20ish minutes do not work for me. Partly because it's so unclear how it lines up chronologically with the end of Part One. It doesn't feel right that they're still "tryna reach the Sietch". As consistent…
“I’ll see you in the beginning my friend!”
Watched this for the 8th time today and all I could just say is “fuck yeah!”
Honestly a film that gets more rewarding as you rewatch it as you uncover so much more. It’s truly an experience unlike any film and is one I keep getting drawn to watching. And seeing it again in IMAX 70MM just reinforces this.
Such a banger and one I can’t wait to see 8 more times and beyond in my life time.
Emma stone very good, Mark Ruffalo goated, Rami excellent, Willem a delight. Awesome production design, cinematography so discordant it stings (in a pleasant way). I wish it could keep up the genuinely nerve twangling and uproarious tone it established in the first 40 minutes or so, but it just overstays its welcome to a pretty significant degree and becomes a far too predictable for a movie so high on its own unpredictability. Score was insufferable (not everything needs the Ari…
Warmed my heart and made me laugh!! Love Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo has become the god of foppishness and will never return to earth. Definitely prefer some of the chunks over others. Kinda got bored of willem which should not be possible. But I like what it was sayin even if it wasn’t being the most concise.
TIFF 2023 #25
Strong finisher. Far more surreal and KAUFMANESQUE than I expected, coming into this as a successor to the offbeat strangeness of Raymond and Ray. Maybe…Ewan Is Afraid?? I fucking love Ewan McGregor so as disappointed as I was by his voice not being the usual crunchy unidentifiable American accent I was glad to be able to take the movie more seriously lol
GOOD TIFF!! I AM TIRED

Please please improve the descriptions next year these are terrible. Another one that was kinda ruined by a completely misleading longline. Need to revisit this when I have a better idea of what I’m getting into. Pretty not great as it stands right now but hey that’s the magic of the movies or something
absolutely my shit!!! writing reads like a branden jacobs-jenkins play (minus racism) - my favourite playwright. costumes were done by bode - one of my favourite brands. incredible ensemble of actors and absurdity in perfect doses. best way to end an equally excellent festival :)
