Everything else in 2024's filmography is fighting for second place because holy shit
This was genuinely spectacular on every front conceivable. This is a Villeneuve movie so obviously it's gonna look and sound incredible, that's what he does. Greig Fraser once again shows how cinematography is done. Zimmer cooks again, what else is new? Everything you expected to be great about this movie is amazing
My god, everyone brings their all. Every actor poured their heart into their respective role like their life depended on it. Austin Butler is gonna be the standout for a lot of people. Feyd Rautha is one of the most captivating villains I've seen in a hot minute, what a psychopath. Chalamet gets more to do as Paul and plays into the power so well. Everyone is just incredible
I think my favorite aspect of this, besides everything else, is what I really love about the Dune book; a deep exploration into godhood. This dives into the prophetic and religious aspects of the Dune lore in such intimidating ways. Showing how manufactured and propagandized a holy war can become, and eventually will become. Paul's development from newcomer to savior is honestly scary. If people see his rise to power as triumphant and victorious, then they've fallen for Reverend Mother Jessica's trap. The way this film challenges the audience on propaganda and faith based fervor is perfection. Chani put it well when she said a Messiah keeps people down. Waiting for a savior, forgoing possible millennia of progress for a man who may never come. Unfortunately, he has arrived
I haven't had the pleasure of reading Dune Messiah just yet but I know certain story beats about it. Naturally, I'm immensely excited to see the end of this series and people's inevitable split reactions to it. Potential for the best book to movie series ever lies ahead. Long live the fighters
